Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt under Master Pedro Sauer

Certified Pedro Sauer Instructor

Andrew is one of our lead Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors and has been studying various martial arts for 30 years.  Starting with Muay Thai, Andrew initially came to the martial arts as someone who had experienced being bullied and the sincere desire to want to protect himself and his friends.  After gaining his initial passion for the martial arts though Muay Thai, he then ventured off and studied Arnis (or Eskrima/Kali) and Mixed Martial Arts (western boxing, shoot wrestling, Judo, Greco-Roman wrestling and Muay Thai).  Andrew is also a certified Krav Maga instructor through Israeli Technical School.

As part of his Mixed Martial Arts training, Andrew discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2006 and fell in love immediately.  After seeing renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Royce Gracie submit larger and more aggressive opponents in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Andrew knew that he had found what he was looking for.  Though he had trained in grappling for years, he realized that much of it did not transfer to self defense.  With BJJ, that was now resolved.  Andrew committed himself to his new passion and in July, 2015 was awarded his brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by Master Pedro Sauer.  Andrew’s true passion as an instructor comes from seeing growth by all of his students: those who train for fun, those for self defense and those to stay in shape.  Additionally, Andrew hopes to impart a sense of legitimate knowledge, self-respect, humility, accomplishment and motivation in all of his students.

Outside of the school, Andrew is a forensic evaluator and psychotherapist.  He is a doctoral candidate in clinical social work and is a certified sex offender treatment provider.  When he is not on the mat, you can usually find Andrew engaged in an epic Nerf war with his son.
